Summary of the April 28, 2008 Board Meeting

The Board of Directors met on April 28, 2008, to adopt a budget for the coming fiscal year and hear reports of its Treasurer and Executive Director on funds and operations.  The Board discussed funding for the upcoming December Winter Festival and the status of grants and cash flow.

The directors also heard a report on the Juneteenth Celebration of Black independence in the United States, an anniversary of the June 19, 1865 notification to the last of the slaves that they had been freed.  Lana Cooper-Jones made a presentation regarding the tradition of the family of the late Sydney Cooper to sponsor a health information fair on that day.  She reported that Imperial Avenue would be closed on June 19 for the fair and that there were be free food and entertainment and merchant and public agency booths to provide information and sell specialty items from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on that day, and that the event was open to the entire community.

The next meeting of the Board will be in the Community Meeting Room of the Police Station for the Central Division, at 25th Street and Imperial, at 5:00 p.m. on June 16, 2008. Board meetings are open to the public.
