Summary of the March 22, 2010,
  Board Meetings


The Board of Directors met briefly on May 17, 2010, to receive reports from staff and committees.  Jerry Guzman-Vergara, Assistant Executive Director of the Sherman Heights Community Center made a presentation on the planning for the upcoming season of Barrio Marketplace to run from June to September.  He discussed the funding for the Market, the location and time scheduling and the need for assistance to set up and tear down each week.  The Board provided suggestions and discussed ways in which the Corporation could assist.

The annual contract with the City of San Diego was the subject of much discussion, particularly relating to the timing of approvals and the potential for having to begin the fiscal year without a signed agreement.  The Board reviewed proposed changes to the initial draft of agreement proposed by the City.  A set of changes was approved and authority to negotiate and sign was approved.

The hanging of 100 decorative banners funded with assistance from Supervisor Greg Cox was reported by Vice President James Justus.  Executive Director Don Shuckett reported on a possible grant to construct poles and purchase banners that would be overhead, crossing the street on Imperial Avenue at 25th Street and Imperial Avenue.

The next meeting of the Board will be held in the Community Meeting Room at the Police Station, 25th and Imperial, at 5:00 p.m. on August 16, 2010.  Board meetings, as well as meetings of the members, are open to the public.
